Worship God With Us
"But an hour is coming, and now is, when the
true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for
such people the Father seeks to be His worshipers. "God is
spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth."
(John 4:23-24)
If you would like to participate in a spiritual setting, praising
God and benefiting your soul, please come and worship with us. Here
is what you can expect when worshipping with us:
A warm welcome - You will be welcomed into
our midst and honored as our special guest.
A comfortable surrounding - You are not
expected to do anything that makes you feel uncomfortable. However,
if what we do is foreign to you (and causes you to feel uncomfortable)
please ask us why we worship God the way we do (see below for a
brief overview of why we worship the Lord).
A friendly smile - If there is anything we can do to be of help
to you...especially for the sake of your soul, know that there is
a genuine interest in you behind our friendly smiles.
Why Do we...
Before answering the questions below in specific we'd like to share
some fundamental points on why we do what we do when worshipping
the Lord (or serving Him in our daily lives).
- Whatever we do in word or deed, we must do all "in the
name of the Lord" (Colossians 3:17).
- When we worship God we are to do so both in "spirit and
truth" (John 4:23-24).
- Thus, we are lead solely by God's word because that is the only
way we know for sure how we have faith (see Romans 10:17; Jeremiah
10:23).
We Remember our Lord's
Sacrifice each Sunday... because the purpose for meeting
on each first day of the week (Sunday) is to partake of the Lord's
Supper (see sermon):
remembering His death (and all that is attached to His death). The
scriptures reveal that is what the Christians did in the first century
(Acts 20:7) when they came together as a church (1 Corinthians 11:18),
proclaiming "the Lord's death until He comes" (v. 26),
doing so in a worthy manner (see v. 27).
We Sing Spiritual
Songs... because we are told to lift our voices unto the
Lord, "teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns
and spiritual songs, singing
with grace in (our) hearts to the Lord" (Colossians 3:16;
Ephesians 5:19). It is important to God and us that our hearts are
involved in how we sing to the Lord and as we teach and admonish
one another. Remember, we are told to worship Him in spirit and
truth (John 4:23-24).
If you worship with us you'll quickly note that there are no instruments
used in worship. We readily admit such was part of Old Testament
worship but know we do not live nor abide by any of the "Old"
Testament. See Hebrews 8:13. Instead, we notice that the New Testament
does not reveal anyone worshipping God with instruments (here on
earth) and thus, we worship our God in like manner...by faith, as
revealed in His New Testament (that which we are to abide within).
We Pray to our God...
because prayer is the very essence of worship! Yet, God reveals
His will for us to pray to Him (Philippians 4:6). More importantly
for our benefit is the understanding of the power
of prayer!
We Give (Financially)
to our God... because the Lord's work demands that resources
are needed to fulfill it. Thus, just as Christians met on the first
day of the week and "lay by in store" (put something aside...into
the treasury and saved until used for the work), we do the same
today (1 Corinthians 16:2). The money we give to the Lord is done
with a cheerful and generous heart (2 Corinthians 9:6-7). While
many know this many do not practice liberal
giving because the world has many devices that consume our desire
of the almighty dollar. With this in mind, test your heart to see
how
money tests the liberality of your giving to the Lord.
We Study God's Word...
in the form of Bible studies and sermons. Remember Acts 20:7 (when
Christians came together on the first day of the week to "break
bread")...theyse Christians also heard God's word proclaimed
(Acts 20:9-11). For those in the church belonging to Christ, such
a time is used to build each other up in faith and truth (see Ephesians
4:14-15). |
