SHARING THE GOSPEL
VBS is coming soon and we are all familiar with the VBS song, “This little light of mine.” We sing this song to teach our children that they need to set good examples and be positive influences in this world. This song is a reminder for all of us to practice what we preach, by letting our lights shine and then pass on what we have learned. Paul’s example once converted is certainly one that reflects his determination and boldness for sharing the gospel. In fact, he said in Romans 1:16 “For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to everyone that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.” We need to share the gospel, the good news of Jesus Christ, to everyone. Paul’s statement about not being ashamed of the gospel is bold and it’s exactly that type of boldness we need as Christians when sharing the gospel. Unfortunately, many don’t pass along the good news for one reason or another. Are we ashamed to share the gospel for fear of conflict or rejection? Do we feel unprepared to answer questions? Whatever the reason we halt at getting the message out remember, it’s not about us but about the lost souls that need to obey.
The bible reads in James 4:17, “So whoever knows the right thing to do and fails to do it, for him it is sin”. Sharing God’s word is the right thing and is commanded. Have we shared the gospel message with our families, friends, co-workers or anyone ignorant to the gospel truths? If we have, then may the Lord continue to bless our efforts. If not, there is much work to do. Jesus said to His disciples in John 4:35 “Do you not say, there are yet four months, and then comes the harvest? Look, I tell you lift up your eyes and see the fields are white for harvest.” The harvest is great before us and our responsibility is to go into the fields and reap what God has given. Perhaps we have made the effort to share the gospel and it was rejected. Paul had this to say regarding those that reject God’s word. “In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them” (2 Corinthians 4:4). God’s people are needed to help lead the lost to Christ.
Jesus never promised that all would hear and obey. In fact, He said the opposite, namely, that more would reject the word, than accept it. Jesus’s teachings often ended with the statement, “He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.” What did He mean? He meant that if there is a willing heart, and an open mind, then one should obey; otherwise, eternal separation will be the end result. So, what category do we fall in? Are we ashamed of the gospel or bold like Paul? The harvest is great and there are many who have not obeyed. Don’t give up. If our efforts have failed in the past or in specific locations, move on to other places. If we are planting seeds, we are doing the work. We don’t give the increase, God does. If we have not been sharing God’s word, start today by getting out of our comfort zones and working for the cause of Christ. There is room for all to get busy in the furtherance of God’s kingdom, and we can start by sharing the gospel.
