It was Ralph Waldo Emerson who said; “The only way to have a friend is to be one.” Who are your friends? Let me inject this one fact, not all of our friends are human! There are those times when our affections or friendships seem to head bit toward the base things of this life, which by the way just indicate our lack of higher quality of mind or spirit. Such things as the lust of the flesh, lust of the eyes and the pride of life are friendships, that need to be avoided at any cost, see (1 John 2:15, 16). In fact, when we hold these worldly friendships we have become the enemy of our Father in heaven, (James 4:4).
The great patriarch Abraham had a friendship which we all should long to have, he was called ”the Friend of God.” But father Abraham was not by any means a “perfect” man. The important thing to understand though is that he was a forgiven man, (James 2:23). From this day forward let us all attempt to fear God by respecting His Holy word the Bible through our obedience unto it. This will allow us to have the best friend anyone could ever ask for…“The friendship of Jehovah is with them that fear him;…” (Psalm 25:14). With friendship comes responsibility, we need to realize that to have this friend, we must be a friend to Him as well!
“What a friend we have in Jesus, all our sins and grief’s to bear!
Can we find a friend so faithful, who will all our sorrows share?
Jesus knows our every weakness; take it to the Lord in prayer.”
In (Romans 6:16) “Know ye not, that to whom ye present yourselves as servants unto obedience, his servants ye are whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?”
